Finally my book titled “Storage Impelementation in vSphere 5.0” went to print and will be available by VMworld 2012 SFO. I will have books sigining events there.
I recently Purchased Kindle Edition of your Storage. It is the best vsphere book available in the market.
I have a Question on IP Storage.
IP Storage Port Groups should be created on Default vswitch0 or should we create separate vswitch for IP Storage Port Groups.
Are there any best practices for IP Storage Networking.
Looking forwrad to your reply as well as Part 2 of the Storage book.
Harry,
The best practice is to have a dedicate storage network that is separate from the management VM networks.
Note that since iSCSI network is not routable in vSphere 5, the initiators and targets must be on the same subnet.
With that in mind, you don’t have to use the default vSwitch0 if you have enough uplinks to dedicate to the storage network.
Also keep in mind that you cannot combine NIC teaming with Port Binding for iSCSI Software Initiators.
Yes Kim, I am working on a 1200 page book that includes new features in vSphere 6 storage, including VSAN 6/6.1 and VVols, in addition to updading the current book content to version 6. It is targeted for Q4 2015 or Q1 2016.
